How to play Tic Tac Toe

Tac Tac Toe is a game for two players, X and O, who take turns marking a cell in a 3x3 grid. The first player to mark a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line of three cells wins.

Tic Tac Toe is a casual point and click type of game. It works almost on any device, screen-size and input-controller, like:

How to win Tic Tac Toe

A good example is better than a lengthy explanation. Here are six examples to illustrate all about Tic Tac Toe tactics:

1. Win a line
2. Block a line
3. Make a fork

5. Exploit opening mistake
6. Avoid opening mistake

If you play by these rules you will never lose a game of Tic Tac Toe again, that is, without making mistakes. But of course you do mistakes. Especially when making hasty decisions which is also why the game rewards for playing fast :)

1. Win a line

Because the first player to get three marks in a line wins right away, X should play at the top-right corner on the next move to win immediately.

2. Block a line

O must play at the top-right corner to block X from winning on the next move.

3. Make a fork

Tic Tac Toe "fork" means that you have two rows winning from which your opponent can block just one.

In the example, X can play at either cell in the bottom row to create a fork that O can't block anymore so X will win on the next move.

4. Block a fork

O must play in one of the edge cells. If O would play in a corner then X could make a fork by playing on the opposite corner.

5. Exploit opening mistake

X  should play in one of the bottom corners to win.

6. Avoid opening mistakes

O must not place at edge cells next to X, or X can force a win.
